Upon arriving, we quickly discovered the history behind the city’s two massive salt lakes responsible for producing a staggering half a million tons of salt annually. Wanting to dive deeper into the city’s past, we visited the Museum of Sea and Salt, which provided fascinating insights into the area’s unique heritage.
But Torrevieja had more than just history to offer. The Natural Park of the Lagoons of the Mata, with its salt baths known for providing relaxation and therapeutic benefits, proved to be the perfect remedy for my aching joints. I cherished the tranquil stroll through the park, admiring its diverse fauna and colorful exotic birds that fluttered around us.

No visit to Torrevieja would be complete without immersing ourselves in its bustling marketplace. We found ourselves surrounded by a vibrant display of fresh fruits and vegetables in the city’s open-air market, which is one of Spain’s largest. The nearby craft market by the harbor enchanted us with its handcrafted jewelry, intricate carvings, and fine leather goods.
As my husband is a golf aficionado, we couldn’t miss the chance to play at one of the many golf courses in the area, including the prestigious Torrevieja Golf Club. The green fees were reasonable, and the vibrant fairways offered a picturesque setting for a round of golf.

As a music lover, my heart was set ablaze when I experienced one of the city’s annual international music festivals. The enchanting Habanera Festival showcased several talented choral groups from all over the world, staging mesmerizing performances that left me in awe.

While we didn’t travel with kids, I couldn’t help but notice the plethora of family-friendly activities available in Torrevieja. The Aquopolis Water Park, with its rapid rides, wave pool, slides, and swimming areas, would be an ideal spot for families. For indoor entertainment, Indiana Bills offered a soft play park suitable for children below 12 years old, ensuring endless fun regardless of the weather.
